Will PCLN Take a Journey to Record Highs?

Priceline (NASDAQ:PCLN) broke out of its recent 6-week trading range, and now looks ready to take out the highs last touched on more than 11 months back.

With Thursday’s session about to wrap up, PCLN looks about to book the slightest of gains on the day, with the stock now at $1467.44, up 0.23% for the day. That leaves the online travel giant under-performing the broad market, however, as the Dow is up by 0.60% while the benchmark S&P 500 Index (SPX) has gained by 0.67%.

Despite today’s session, PCLN has managed to strongly outperform the broad market indices so far this year, with the stock showing a gain of 14.92% YTD. In comparison, the S&P 500 index is now up by 6.57% s o far for 2016.

PCLN has now gained more than 10% since the end of July, and that’s on top of the 10% bullish recovery that followed the crash-and burn that hit the markets post-Brexit.

However, more recently, PCLN has mostly been traveling in a 4.5% range defined by support at

$1388 and resistance at $1450.

That top line got tested a couple of times over the last couple of weeks, as PCLN tried to move beyond that level, finally breaking through to approach the all-time high of $1476 established last November.

So far, the stock hasn’t made it back to that point yet, though a positive bullish signal did emerge this week that could foreshadow PCLN’s next directional move.

That signal is a bullish MACD crossover, and PCLN had one of those back on Monday, as highlighted in the circle at the chart’s bottom.

PCLN’s current bullish PayDayCycle is now on its second day, while the PayDayCycle status is currently +2.

PayDayCycles are 4-8 day trends in stocks that help people swing trade. To learn more about PayDayCycles make sure to grab the free Swing Trading Class on the right sidebar.

Bottom line: Traders may want to wait to see if the stock can power on to new all-time highs. If that move is successful, a breakout play favoring the bulls may be considered.
